Miami Marlins news: Matt Diaz to disabled list with knee contusion, Jordan Brown promoted from Triple-A

Mike Ehrmann

Miami Marlins backup outfielder Matt Diaz has been sent to the disabled list with a left knee contusion. Jordan Brown will take his place on the roster.

After tonight's 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, the Miami Marlins are making a minor move. The team sent Matt Diaz to the disabled list with a left knee contusion, replacing him with Triple-A outfielder Jordan Brown. This is according to the Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi.

Diaz's start with the Marlins has not been impressive, as he was hitting .167/.211/.222 (.196 wOBA) in 19 plate appearances before the injury. Diaz was supposed to provide a nice righty outfield bat off the bench, especially since the team has been light on outfielders with Giancarlo Stanton's injury, Juan Pierre's and Chris Coghlan's ineffectiveness, and Austin Kearns's bout with personal family matters. So far, he has not panned out, even against lefty pitchers.

Jordan Brown was not exactly lighting the world on fire in the minors either. Brown was hitting just .246/.293/.316 (.277 wOBA) in Triple-A New Orleans, which makes you wonder why his contract was chosen. Close to his outfield position is Bryan Petersen, who was hitting .270/.366/.423 (.360 wOBA). That is not a great Pacific Coast League line, but it's better than what Brown was doing, and both hitters are lefties.
