Play of the Game: Scott Van Slyke homered in the second inning (-0.124 WPA)

The Miami Marlins were unable to come back against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the final game of their three-game series. Despite a Justin Ruggiano home run that kept the Fish in the game and a late-game comeback against Brandon League, the Fish fell just short and lost the finale, 5-3.

The Marlins stayed in the game early thanks to a decent, but lucky, outing by Tom Koehler, who was making his first start of the season. Koehler managed just one strikeout and one walk and allowed the second inning homer to Scott Van Slyke, but he ended up throwing five innings with only two runs allowed despite the mediocre peripherals. Koehler also allowed seven hits, meaning he was lucky to get good defense by the Fish. That includes a strong performance by Marcell Ozuna, who threw out Carl Crawford trying to move to third base.

Unfortunately, the Fish once again were sidetracked by their offense, which managed just five hits before the ninth inning. Justin Ruggiano hit a solo homer in the sixth inning that kept the team in the game, but the Fish found themselves down 5-1 in the ninth. Despite Adeiny Hechavarria's two-run double, the Marlins still could not complete the comeback.
