The Miami Marlins won their first game of the season last night against the New York Mets, The Fish are going up against the Mets in an early afternoon, and on the mound for them is Ricky Nolasco, who put up a good effort in the first game of the season. The Mets will counter with Jon Niese and hope that their defense does not falter for them as badly as it did last night.

Ricky Nolasco struck out five batters in six innings and looked the part of the old Nolasco, even down to the two home runs he allowed to Bryce Harper. Nevertheless, the Nationals were signing Nolsaco's praises after the game, so that must mean something for his skill level. The Fish will look to get another performance like the last one against a worse lineup in the Mets. Hopefully Nolasco left the long ball in Washington, D.C.

Jon Niese takes the mound against the Fish. With Johan Santana out for the season, Niese ascends to the de facto ace position on this staff, but he is a highly skilled pitcher, so this is not too much of a stretch. Niese posted a solid 3.40 ERA with a 3.80 FIP last season, and he is looking further success this year. What better way to do that than to face the Marlins' offense, right? Wait, not after last night, perhaps.

Lineup

Lineups still not up, and I'm posting this relatively close to the usual time. As always Fish Stripers, assist me!

Notes

- I will not be here for the first half of the game, as I will be doing medical school-related work. Would that I could, folks, but maybe my absence will #MJIJ us some runs.

Bold Prediction: Mets def. Marlins 3-2
