Play of the Game: Brandon Phillips hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Shin-Soo Choo scores (-0.180 WPA).

The Miami Marlins did their best to achieve their second-straight win for the first time this season. The Cincinnati Reds forced out 13 hits, but the Fish were able to strand just enough runners to keep themselves in the game despite a second-straight sub par performance by Wade LeBlanc. The Reds stranded 10 of their 12 baserunners thanks to some timely outs.

More importantly the Marlins' bullpen came in after LeBlanc's weak four innings and held down the Reds, giving up just six hits in 8 2/3 innings. The group of A.J. Ramos. Tom Koehler, Ryan Webb, Chad Qualls, Mike Dunn, and Steve Cishek combined for 12 strikeouts (1) with just five walks and six hits in those innings, almost pulling off a complete game of shutout baseball.

Unfortunately, the Reds were able to pull out the win off of Steve Cishek. Cishek gave up a ground-rule double TO Choo, part of Choo's ridiculous three-hit, three-walk game, and advanced to home on two fly ball outs.

The Fish offense played decently by getting seven hits, but once again, the team was unable to bring home runners when the opportunity opened itself. The Marlins almost messed up their lone two-run inning, as the team scored a run and still had no outs with runners on first and second before a line-out double play left a runner on second and two outs on the board. Placido Polanco eventually delivered the run at second, tying up the game. Unfortunately, since those fifth inning runs, the Marlins got just two hits, both of which were followed by sacrifice bunts and consecutive outs to shut out the inning.

The Marlins will salvage a split of this four-game series with Alex Sanabia going to the mound tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm EST.
