LeBlanc Gets Lit Up

After two encouraging outings coming into the game, Wade LeBlanc got rocked on Monday. LeBlanc went only 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs. Nationals second baseman Ian Desmond had two doubles off of Leblanc, and Tyler Moore and Steve Lombardozzi doubled as well. Overall, it wasn't an impressive outing for LeBlanc. He never gave the Marlins a chance to win. After LeBlanc left the game, John Maine came in and allowed three more runs. In all, the Marlins pitchers gave up sixteen hits, which is unacceptable no matter who you look at it.

Zimmermann Dominates

Jordan Zimmermann is a very good MLB starting pitcher. However, he didn't throw one complete game in all of 2012. For Zimmerman to throw a complete game against Miami should be embarrassing for the Marlins. Zimmerman only needed 103 pitches to go the distance against the Marlins. He also generated 14 groundouts and struck out six. At some point or another, the Marlins are going to have to learn how pitchers of Zimmerman's caliber.

Coghlan Shines

Chris Coghlan went 2 for 4 with an RBI single. With Miami down 10-1 in the sixth, Coghlan got a 1-0 fastball which he turned on and grounded into right to score Juan Pierre from second. This was Coghlan's first two-hit game since June 3rd of last year, so it was nice to see him do a little damage at the plate. Also, he had a couple of nice plays in the outfield. The Marlins will be thrilled if Coghlan can start to become a passable second division number two hitter, but it is more likely that Coghlan just had a decent day and he is who we think he is.

The Marlins will take on Minnesota at Target Field tomorrow at 1:10 PM EST. Yay for interleague baseball!
