MLB Scores: Miami Marlins 2, Philadelphia Phillies 1

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Marlins get another brilliant performance from prospect Jose Fernandez, and that includes the rookie's first hit and RBI of his career. The Fish beat the Philadelphia Phillies in walk-off fashion thanks to a Chris Coghlan single.

The Miami Marlins record just their second win of the season, this time beating the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1. The Fish pull it off behind another strong performance from rookie pitcher and top prospect Jose Fernandez, who had an all-around excellent game. He struck out five batters and walked just two in six innings of work. He allowed just two hits and shut out the Phillies, once again making an NL East foe look silly with his mid-90's fastball and tight curveball.

However, Fernandez was not done just on the mound. He also recorded his first hit of his major league career, and it also drove in his first career RBI. Adeiny Hechavarria connected on a two-out triple in the fifth inning, and Fernandez followed with the base hit to drive in the team's first run.

The Marlins offense otherwise looked baffled by Cole Hamels, who recovered from his awful first two starts to strike out five hitters and walk three in six innings. The Fish tallied just two hits against Hamels, but it was in the ninth inning against Phillipe Aumont that the Marlins did their most damage. Placido Polanco walked, followed by a ricochet infield hit by Greg Dobbs that moved Polanco to third base with no one out. After Austin Kearns failed to deliver the winning run, Chris Coghlan hit a tapper to second base that gave Polanco just enough time and Chase Utley just enough trouble to bring home the winning Marlins run.

The Phillies and Marlins will battle tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 pm EST, with Roy Halladay and Kevin Slowey taking the mound.
