Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins has made waves this week with his outstanding play on the mound. He was spectacular in his debut against the New York Mets. He set the Marlins' strikeout record for a rookie debuting in the majors. He generated a lot of buzz heading into this weekend's first Marlins Park home start for Fernandez, with a lot of fans excited to see what he can do.

Well, so far in the game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Fernandez has not only performed well on the mound, but he finally got it going with the bat as well. Fernandez recorded his first major league base hit with two outs and a runner on third base in the fifth inning. Adeiny Hechavarria led up to the plate appearance with a two-out triple, and Fernandez finished the job and granted himself a 1-0 lead with a single up the middle. It is also Fernandez's first major league RBI of his career.

Fernandez finished the night with six innings, having surpassed his presumed 80-pitch limit.. He has struck out five batters and walked two with only two hits allowed.
