The Miami Marlins took a tough first loss of the 2013 season, staying competitive against Stephen Strasburg but ultimately falling to the Washington Nationals 2-0. The big offensive hero for the Nats was Bryce Harper, who provided two solo home runs and contributed all of the runs for the Nationals. Ricky Nolasco performed well in the loss, allowing just two runs and striking out five batters in six innings.

The Marlins struggled against Strasburg, avoiding strikeouts but generally getting shut out of the game. After Juan Pierre's first-inning single, the Fish could not record a hit and were retired in order until the seventh inning, when the team put up a small rally that was killed on a catch-and-throw from left field to home plate. The Marlins put two on board with no one out thanks to a Giancarlo Stanton double and Placido Polanco single, but Rob Brantly's fly ball to left was not deep enough to score the runner and the Fish squandered their lone opportunity at runs.

The Marlins and Nationals take a day off tomorrow before rekindling their matchup again Wednesday night.
