Per usual for this time of the year, news is extremely limited for the Marlins and the rest of the league in general. With that said, this week's Fish Bites will guide you through some of the latest news on the Marlins, MLB and of course Fish Stripes.

Marlins claim speedy Paredes off waivers | Fish Bytes

With their first move of the new offseason, the Marlins acquire the speedy but yet inconsistent Jimmy Paredes off waivers from the Houston Astros. That inconsistency (hit .234 in his three year stint with the Astros) wouldn't make the Marlins offense any worse and his addition could add more depth to the infield because of his ability to play four different positions.

Jose Fernandez is finalist for Cy Young, Rookie | Fish Bytes

As previously mentioned on this site, our lord and savior Jose Fernandez is the finalist for both Cy Young and Rookie of the Year. Fernandez is the leading candidate for ROY which will be announced on Monday while being the underdog for the other award which will be made official on November 13th.

To the surprise of nobody, the Marlins have declined on making qualifying offers on any of the impending free agents that included veterans Chad Qualls, Juan Pierre and Placido Polanco.

While the influx of differing trade rumors surrounding Giancarlo Stanton keeps on continuing into the off-season, new Marlins general manager Dan Jennings made his commitment to Stanton public during his appearance on Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette's SiriusXM radio program. Besides his statement about Stanton, Jennings stated that he's most interested in Boston's Will Middlebrooks and LA Angels 1st baseman Mark Trumbo.
