The Miami Marlins got an excellent effort from Giancarlo Stanton, whose three-for-four performance was worth a third of a win on its own. And Stanton picked up right where he left off last night, sending yet another home run very close to the same area to which he hit his 35th of the season. Tonight he launched his 36th shot of the year, another solo shot, this time against Roy Halladay.
But in tonight's game, no one else helped. Ricky Nolasco and the Marlins' apparently porous defense allowed nine hits depsite a decent four-strikeout performance in five innings. Nolasco allowed five runs in a night when Roy Halladay looked at his most beatable and had just allowed four runs. But it was not enough, as A.J. Ramos, Tom Koehler, Michael Dunn, and Chris Hatcher combined to allow four more runs to score to put the game away for good. Despite a bases-loaded rally in the ninth, Jonathan Papelbon put away Carlos Lee and Greg Dobbs and finished the game.
