The Miami Marlins were so close this time. They were so close.
Stop me if you have heard this before.
Yes, the Marlins looked to be on their way to a nice comeback victory over the Atlanta Braves. Donovan Solano was having the game of his young career, launching his first two career home runs against the hottest pitcher in baseball, Kris Medlen. Nathan Eovaldi racked up a career-high eight strikeouts and was looking masterful for much of the game. Much like a few days ago versus the New York Mets, everything seemed to be going their way.
And then the bullpen, recently aptly named the "Miami Mayhem," struck again.
The Marlins entrusted the beginning of the ninth inning to Mike Dunn, as closer Steve Cishek had been struggling this month and there was a lefty on the way. That lefty, Freddie Freeman, did the Marlins in with a walk-off, two-run home run. Marlins lose. Again.
