The Miami Marlins were so close. This time, they were so close.
The Fish got down early to the New York Mets, but Ricky Nolasco held the fort for as long as he could. While his outing was not perfect, a five-strikeout effort was nothing at which to scoff. The Marlins hung on despite battling Chris Young, the Mets defense, and the sun at various points in the game. While both teams had some opportunities to score more than their two runs by the time the ninth inning rolled around, the Marlins in the end capitalized on one less opportunity than the Mets. The walk-off win for the Mets off of a Ruben Tejada single against Ryan Webb means the Fish have lost seven in a row to New York and have been swept twice in the last month.
But hey, this time, at least it felt close. #minorvictories, right?
