The Marlins' season is over. I'd love to see how much television ratings have dropped for Marlins' games in the last month and a half. It appears most of Miami and the rest of the country have lost interest in hearing about baseball in Miami. However, if you are a depressed Marlins' fan, being optimistic about their future isn't a bad idea. Greensboro is still in the SAL playoffs, so support these Marlins' prospects!
The 2012 Jupiter Hammerheads were one of the most talented teams that the Florida State League has seen in a long, long time. With three first-round picks on the roster, most of the Marlins' talent played for Jupiter at some point this season. However, when it comes to fairly inexperienced baseball players, talent doesn't always equal wins. For Jupiter in the FSL playoffs this year, that was exactly the case. Jupiter lost in the final game of a five-game series to the Tigers' FSL affiliate, Lakeland.
Jupiter started out the series with a win, and after three games against Lakeland, they only needed one win to be FSL champions. However, after a game on Monday was rained out, Lakeland stormed back and won the next two games. Jose Fernandez, Adam Conley, and Chad James all got starts in this series. Anytime you have those three going for you, your chances can't be that bad. Nonetheless, Lakeland still managed to get some timely hitting against the Marlins' pitchers.
Greensboro is having an awesome season in the SAL. The South Atlantic League Northern Division Champions, Greensboro is now in a dogfight with Asheville for the league championship. While Asheville does have a very talented roster featuring players such as Trevor Story and WIll Swanner, it remains to be seen whether or not they will be able to score runs off the Grasshoppers superb bullpen. Greensboro won the first two games of this series, but lost the third. They will host Asheville Friday and Saturday night to decide the league title.
