Player of the Game: Ricky Nolasco (.181 WPA)
Goat of the Game: Jose Reyes (-.026 WPA)
The Marlins beat the Nationals Tuesday night to take the first game of this two game series. Ricky Nolasco pitches a shut out (who saw this one coming?). Justin Ruggiano gets his first career four hit game (on base all five times). And Stephen Strasburg gives up five earned runs in just five innings. The only negative for the Marlins who were returning to Marlins Park after a long road trip? Jose Reyes went hit less in five at bats.
Plenty of Offense
The Marlins collected 13 hits (nine hits off Strasburg) on this night. Leading the hit party was Ruggiano. Followed by Giancarlo Stanton who had three hits himself. The rest of the batters, including Nolasco, all had a hit minus Reyes. In all, the Marlins got eight RBIs, two walks, and only struck out four times. What a way to receive the division leading Nats!
Nolasco Pitches Brilliantly
The star of the show was Ricky. 78 of his 115 pitches were strikes. He went the distance and only gave up five hits in the process. You know he was good on this night because he did not walk anyone. Plus, his ground ball to fly ball ration was elegant (12-10). All in all, Ricky gets his tenth win of the season, and he does it in grand style.
