The Miami Marlins and Major League Baseball are debuting new batting practice caps, and according to the early reviews, the designs are trending up compared to the previous look. The Marlins' caps, however, have an early mixed response.

Paul Lukas of ESPN.com and his own Uni Watch blog unveiled an interesting discovery from an inside source: MLB's brand new batting practice baseball cap designs! And rejoice, batting practice cap fans! Lukas believes these models are better than the old ones!

The longstanding BP cap trend has been that each design cycle is worse than the previous one. But Uni Watch is happy to report that this streak has finally been broken. The new caps have no silly stretch panels and no extraneous design. So most of the new caps are better than the old ones.

That does not mean every one is a winner, and Lukas had something negative to say about the Miami Marlins' new cap design. Here is the design, in all of its glory.

Lukas thought the white background design with the black rim was the polar opposite of what the Marlins should do, and I tend to agree that, given the choice of a solid black design or the new one, I would prefer the old style. But Lukas also mentions that the new road version of the cap is fantastic, and my boycott of the team is sadly going to keep me away from getting one of these.

While I hated the alternate all-orange outfits the Marlins occasionally used on Sunday home games and such, the orange color inserted into bits and pieces of the Marlins' new design has grown on me. This is one of those times, I believe. The orange rim is very cool, but it keeps the black background on the cap that happens to be my favorite way to see the logo. I thoroughly enjoy the main all-black cap the team uses, and this alternate design properly uses the orange part of the scheme.

What do you Fish Stripers think? Which batting practice cap design do you like? Were you not boycotting the team and its products, which one would you pick up, if any? Let us know in the comments!
