Quick Cap: Miami Marlins 3, New York Mets 2

Source: FanGraphs

Attendance: 24,543
Hero of the Game: Gorkys Hernandez (0.179 WPA)
Goat of the Game: Bryan Petersen (-0.162 WPA)
Play of the Game: Rob Brantly doubled to left field in the eighth inning. Carlos Lee scored. (+0.176 WPA)

Finally, the Miami Marlins have won a game.

The Fish were behind for much of this contest, having been unable to take advantage of the wildness of Jeurys Familia early in the game. Despite Familia's six walks in four innings, the Marlins were incapable of scoring a run off of him. It took the Mets bullpen coming in early to force the Marlins' runs through the plate.

How did the Marlins pull off their runs? Well, it should not surprise anyone to see Giancarlo Stanton having a hand in one of those runs via his 37th home run of the season. However, the Marlins eked out more runs off of a sacrifice fly by Jose Reyes to score Austin Kearns and, most importantly, a double by rookie catcher Rob Brantly that gave the Marlins the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Steve Cishek closed the door with minimal difficulty and the Fish won the opener in this three-game set.
