Just my opinion
but the Marlins have a bit of a log jam at 1B and, to some extent, in the OF as well. Sanchez and Morrison can both play 1B. Morrison and Stanton hold down two OF spots. Admittedly, the Marlins minor league system is thin. Arguably the best prospects, Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna, are OFers as well. Granted, that’s about it but I wonder if there would be a better fit for the Marlins with their pick?
I really don’t know as much as I would like about amateur ball and honestly I find it rather overwhelming keeping up with it all. So I really appreciate reading things like this from people like you who are much more informed and knowledgable than I am. I’d like to hear and am looking forward to your feedback.

That's
a good point about the OF/1B depth. The thing is, I believe the Marlins will want to go with a college guy to reach the majors quickly to help out the Marlins while Reyes and Hanley are still in their prime. A pitcher might make more sense, but once Appel, Gausman, and Beck are all off the board, it would be a reach to a guy like Michael Wacha or Jake Barrett. Therefore, the best college guy is by far Victor Roache at that point in the draft.
Still, it might make more sense to just take the best player and not worry about that, which could be HS 3B Trey Williams or HS P Lance McCullers. By the time of the draft, I bet there is a college pitcher that does make sense for the Fish at #9 and I would expect them to go that route.
Thanks for the quick feedback. Very good point and very helpful for me.

Do you agree
that it’s best to take the best available talent instead of drafting to fit a team need?

Most definitely
although I think a team should look at general organizational needs if two players are close in talent.
For example, the Cardinals shouldn’t draft a 1B, like Victor Roache if he somehow drops just because they lost Albert Pujols. On the other hand, the Pirates are very deep in the OF, especially compared to the rest of their farm system, so I think they should avoid drafting an OF, especially a CF.
