Marlins radio voice Dave Van Horne will be honored at the Baseball Hall of Fame as the recipient of the 2011 Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting, on Saturday. The ceremony, which will take place in Cooperstown, N.Y., airs on MLB Network on Sunday.
Besides the MLB Network you can see the ceremony on a webcast at baseballhall.org.
A richly deserved honor for DVH. If you get a chance, be sure to check it out.
Joe Capozzi has a nice story on DVH.
Florida Marlins' voice Dave Van Horne well understands the magic of baseball on the radio
I too grew up listening to baseball on the radio, and there is nothing quite like it. It always brings a smile to my face remembering the nights that my Mom would in a raised voice tell me to turnoff the radio and go to sleep. Of course, I never did. The game wasn't over.
The problem with radio nowadays is that the young guys never give the score. I was listening to a Marlins broadcast on my way home from work, which takes about 20 minutes, and Glenn Geffner never gave the score. DVH being the consummate professional would have never done that.
