The Marlins are in sweep avoidance mode. That's right, the Fish are going to take their League worse day game record of 6-12 and somehow avoid the sweep.
Javier Vazquez will take the mound for the Marlins. Javy has pretty much stunk up the month of June. In fact he has gotten worse with every outing in the month. On June 1 he went 6 innings while allowing 4 runs. On June 6 he went 4 innings and allowed 6 runs. Then there was that gem his last time out when on June 11 he only went 3.2 innings while letting in 7 runs. The only good news I can find is that he is a slightly better pitcher in day games. And I mean only slightly.
Cliff Lee takes the hill for the Phillies. Lee has been rocking at CBP lately. In his last two starts there he has gone 15 innings while only allowing 1 run and striking out 17. And just to top that off he has a 2.86 ERA during day games this season. The lefty throws darn near every pitch in the book, but his fastball and curve are his best pitches. The good news is the Marlins have found a way to score runs off of him in the past. Now whether it will be enough to win today's game remains to be seen.
I have no idea what the Marlins lineup will be.
Ichthyomancy continues its hate of day games.
Best of Luck to You!
