Rays claim Jay Buente off waivers
The Tampa Bay Rays claimed Jay Buente off waivers.
The Tampa Bay Rays claimed RHP Jay Buente off waivers from the Marlins and option him to Durham, designate RHP Rob Delaney for assignment.
They should know a little about him, it was the Rays he pitched against in his starting debut.
Buente never really figured into the Marlins future plans but still, we wish him well. Being 27 years-old he is getting up against the clock and hopefully, for him, his Major League career will blossom before the clock strikes midnight on it. And who knows, maybe the Rays are just the team to make that happen. His curve and splitter showed some promise and if he can learn to spot his fastball more effectively he may make a decent end of the rotation option. If not, maybe someone out of the bullpen. But whatever the case, he is in the Rays hands now.
Good luck Jay.

Seriously, could someone explain to me just why sports teams are and should be allowed to "steal" players like this?
Having said that, I wish Buente all the best with his new team.
