Jay Buente DFA'd; Steve Cishek called up

Jay Buente has been designated for assignment and the Marlins have called up reliever Steve Cishek.

On Tuesday afternoon, Florida designated Jay Buente for assignment and recalled reliever Steve Cishek from Triple-A New Orleans.

Buente will have to clear waviers, which he probably will, and reassigned to NOLA. This will take him off the 40-man roster. In a way, I don't like it when a player comes up and only gets one start, especially in the case of Buente, who is fighting for, maybe his last chance to prove he can be a big league pitcher. But baseball isn't about being all caring and nurturing so these things happen.

Cishek has done pretty well in relief while with the Zephyrs and another arm out of the pen is always nice to have. Here are his stats.

Steve Cishek's stats

Buente was scheduled to start Saturday's game in L.A. so unless the Marlins make another move expect to see Burke Badenhop or possibly Brian Sanches in a starting role. My money is on the Hopper.

love the hopper

"I get tired of these recruiting services trying to say who is the best prospect in the country and who i should be recruiting. I really can't stand that NFL guy, what's his name? Mel, yeah Mel Kiper Jr. He knows about as much about football as a Japanese space pilot."

But do you love the Hopper's SB pic?

That was a short appearance

There’s no doubt he’s done well starting in NOLA, just a big difference in minor league hitting and major leagues. Hope he continues a good year there.

And I’m gonna guess Burke Beast-enhop, although I think both Hopper and Sanches would be an ok option at starter

And if Hopper does start

We’ll get to benefit from having that clutch bat of his
