Let's try that winning the series thing again. The Marlins are playing the Mets in the deciding game of the series. As it stands right now, each team has a victory in the best of three.
The Marlins will send out Javier Vazquez to the mound, who will be making his regular season debut for the Fish. Vazquez looked good in spring training and hopefully that will translate into success for this year's campaign. In his last two starts against the Mets in 2010, he went 13 innings total and allowed only one run. So maybe he has them figured out. One down side, he really wasn't very good in day game starts last season. But the same hasn't been true for his career.
The Mets will trot out R.A. Dickey. Dickey is knuckle baller. In the past, that meant trouble for the Marlins. However, with the changes to the lineup over the past two years, it doesn't mean as much so now. While the present team doesn't slug at the rate of previous teams, they are way more patient at the plate than their predecessors. In fact, the Fish logged a .308 BAA when facing Dickey last season. Hopefully, that will hold true for this season.
Donnie Murphy and Mike Stanton are not in the starting lineup. Donnie is nursing a bruised hand and could be back in the lineup on Tuesday. Stanton is still looking after his tight hamstring. More than likely neither will appear in today's contest. But theoretically, they are both available to pinch hit. Hopefully it won't come to that.
To put it into context, Edwin will have a short bench today. The bench players being: Wes Helms, Greg Dobbs and Brett Hayes. And to make it even more fun for Edwin, neither Leo Nunez or Mike Dunn is available today. And you thought being a manager was easy.
Ichthyomancy is surprisingly awake and is ready for the much hated Sunday day game.
Best of Luck to You!
