Marlins make roster cuts

Stay connected for news and updates

As it is with every spring, the Marlins are cutting down the spring training roster.

Joe Capozzi has the story.

The Marlins roster now stands at 53 (25 pitchers, 13 infielders, seven catchers and eight outfielders) after the following cuts this morning.

RHP Jose Ceda was optioned to triple-A New Orleans.

RHP Chris Hatcher, RHP Evan Reed and RHP Omar Poveda were optioned to double-A Jacksonville.

RHP Arquimedes Caminero optioned to single-A Jupiter

LHP Chad James re-assigned to minor league camp.

No surprises there. Though it is nice to see that Chris Hatcher is doing well enough in his new role as a relief pitcher that he is being sent to double-A. That ain't bad. If you remember he was a catcher last season.

It will be of interest, at least to me, to see where Chad James finally ends up in the minors.

Eventually the team will get down to 25 men, but that is a little ways off.
