Offseason thoughts
I am not a bloger or and expert im just a fan that understands the game and these are my thoughts on what should of want to happen this offseason. Anyways here it goes.
1) I like albert and prince but really when you think about it is it worth it. Gabby is a solid young player who will hit 20 hrs bat 270 and drive in 80-100 RBI. Those numbers in my mind is alreadyt a star calibar player. Hes a young guy give him a chance to blossum into the player he can be. Plus without the addition of either it allows us to strengthen our club elsewhere. Where it is definately needed.
2)sign jose reyes. he has his down sides yes but if we sign jose and we keep hanley and boni then i beleive that we just created the best 1,2,3 in the game. Each one of those players has the ability to hit 300 score 100 runs and steal 40 bases if not more then that. Hanley said he is willing to move to third base so lets do it move him to third base. we can trade matt for a pitching prospect or keep him either one is good.
3)sign edwin jackson and mark burhele. both these players can pitch and both would give our starting rotation reason to fear. I think it would be possible to bring these players here for the price of CJ. and i would add much greater depth. And the connection to with burhele and ozzie is great. Plus having a vetern on our staff like that would be a great addition.
4)Sign Mike Stanton to a multi-year lengthy deal that will lock him up till hes at least 30. I mean in my eyes Mike is soon to be the face of the franchise. He is already one of the most feared hitters at the age of 22!! we need to hold on to him for awhile.
That is just my opinion and in my mind i think its good. But let me know what you think and remember im not a blogger or an expert. just a fan who know the game. thanks for reading GO MARLINS!!!!

You should use paragraphs so it's easier to read
1) I think I agree. Albert Pujols is not 25m dollars better than Gaby.
2) Ehh… i’d do it only if we could get him for under 15m
3) Mark Beuhrle would be fine, but i don’t see the need for Edwin Jackson. He’s been with 5 teams in 4 years, and there is a statistic that proves that he is exactly average…
4) I agree.
I agree with the very first sentiment
Please make your posts easier to read for all of us to appreciate your opinions!
1) Pujols may not be $25 million better than Gaby Sanchez, but Gaby Sanchez is no star. He isn’t young either, as he is actually 28 years old. A couple of years ago, Dan Uggla wasn’t “young” either. And look at Gaby’s career line of .269/.346/.440. Among qualified 1st basemen since 2010, Sanchez’s hitting is tied for 11th among them. In other words, he is about an average first baseman, perhaps a bit better.
Is that a good player? Absolutely it is. Is that a “star-caliber” player? You’d be hard-pressed to make that argument.
2) There’s no way Reyes signs for under $15 million a year. He’s looking to get a Carl Crawford-like deal. Whether he gets one remains to be seen however.
3) Edwin Jackson, 2009-2011: 3.96 ERA, 3.90 FIP, averaged 207 2/3 IP / season
Mark Buehrle, 2009-2011: 3.91 ERA, 4.12 FIP, averaged 209 2/3 IP / season
I’m sorry, I don’t see the difference. They’re practically indiscernible in terms of numbers over the past three seasons. There is a difference in age however, in that Buehrle is 32 years old and Jackson is 28. Also, Buehrle is a lefty (something the team is looking for) and Jackson is a righty. But in terms of “statistics,” if Jackson is “exactly average,” then Buerhle is in the same camp.

I hope this clears it up
1) I agree. Gaby isn’t a star, and he probably won’t ever be. However, he is 11th in hitting among first-baseman, like you said. However, I think that if everyone on your team was the 11th best at their positions, you would be a championship contender. Last year Pujols had the 7th best BA among 1B. And I know that it was an ‘off’ year for Albert, but his OBP was only 0.014 points better than Gaby’s. I think that our money would be better spent somewhere else.
2) I never said that he would sign for under $15 million. I highly doubt it, same as you. I was just saying that $15m is what I think he is worth.
3)The reason i said that about Edwin Jackson is because I just read the story on the bottom of this page titled “C.J. Wilson No. 1 Free-Agent Pitcher, But Who’s No. 2?”
In the story, there was a quote that said “Jackson’s ERA+ over the last two seasons is 100: dead average.” That’s why I said that. I didn’t know exactly how good Buehrle has been, so i’m sorry if that sounded ignorant.
No arrogance taken here, I like discussion
I wanted to bring the numbers up to show a point. In addition, I question whether the Marlins don’t need more “average” players. As you say, if we had slightly above average guys everywhere, we’d be pretty darn good. Maybe the team needs more Edwin Jackson and Mark Buehrle.
From 2009-2011, Jackson’s ERA+ was 108, Buehrle’s was 113. They are very very close.
And I agree regarding Gaby. As long as we don’t make the mistake of thinking he’s a better player than he is (as mentioned, an above average first baseman), the team should be OK with him there. All the trade talk is because of the presence of the more promising Logan Morrison. I’d agree that the team should spend money on other things, as my offseason plan suggests.
Again, don’t take my response as me challenging or putting you down, I’m just discussing and bringing some evidence to the table. If my tone came off poor, that’s my fault.

No, it's fine. It's hard to tell the tone of voice on the internet.
Like I said before, I didn’t know how good Buehrle was. Now that you mention it, I agree on that. I’d be happy with either one (or both?). You have to wonder which would be better – Buehrle, Jackson, and an ‘A’ hitter on offense, or C.J. Wilson and some ‘B’ players on offense? Or maybe some combination of the two? Could you imagine what our pitching would look like with a rotation of JJ, C.J. Wilson, Nolasco or Anibal, Buehrle, and Edwin Jackson?
I think that we have to pass on C.J. Wilson. I’d rather have Buehrle, Jackson, and a good hitter, than a loaded pitching staff. There are very few good hitters on the FA market, while there is an abundance of pitching. I think that is what should be the decision maker.
It sucks that there aren’t any star CF on the market. Do you think we’d be able to get a good CF if we traded Boni and Dominguez? Then again, if we did trade them, we’d have no depth, and we probably wouldn’t be able to get a much better player. We might-as-well just pickup Cody Ross or Grady Sizemore.
Also, I’m unaware of the salary cap. Would it even be possible to sign Pujols/Fielder, Buehrle and/or Jackson, and Ross/Sizemore?
There's no salary cap, but the Marlins don't plan on going over $100 million in payroll this season
That would make it difficult for the club to acquire both Buerhle and Jackson and one of the big three hitters on the market.
I’ll get into my rest of my offseason plan as the month rolls on, but if anything, don’t be surprised if the Fish go after WIlson AND one of either Buehrle or Jackson, Alongside Nolasco, Johnson, and Sanchez, that would be a strong pitching staff, if an extremely expensive one.

Ok, I didn't think so
If that’s the case, what do you think we would do with Volstad? Does he have any value?
Probably more value to us than another team
At this point, Volstad is just a guy, someone who can be your fifth starter and be decent. But for a 26-year old former first-round pick, that’s pretty disappointing. He is definitely a candidate to just be non-tendered this season.
