Fish Sign Four to Minor League Deals
According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, the Marlins have signed OF DeWayne Wise, infielders Joe Thurston and Jamie D'Antona, and catcher Clint Sammons to Minor League contracts.
Clark Spencer had this to say about Wise:
Wise is the most intriguing member of the group, and could serve as either outfield insurance and/or a lefty bat off the bench. He plays all three outfield positions and has hit .308 as a pinch-hitter over his career. is a lefty bat who will give a little depth to the outfield, having played all three positions.
All four have Big League experience, and will get a look-see in Spring Training.
Yes, I just said look-see. Craig is rubbing off on me.

From what I've seen of Wise, he is quite the "athlete"
Now I’m sure there are statistics and metrics that could give better insight into him as a defender, but from the limited times I’ve seen him, he seems to be that proverbial “athlete.” You know, the one who is fast and can make plays when given the chance, but can’t hit to save his life so never ended up as an every day player. Here’s hoping that he does work out as a bat off the bench or a backup outfielder for the fish!
All I know about him is that Buerhle catch.
I think the main reason why people know him is for the Buerhle catch. Glad to have him.
