Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Phillies (9/6) - Game Two

Let's go for that special holiday double-header sweep.

Anibal Sanchez takes the mound for the Marlins.  Anibal for the most part has been pitching excellent of late and his last start was a thing of beauty.  However,  all of that said, his last start against the Phillies on Aug. 4, wasn't all that good, in fact he didn't get through 5.  The Phillies caught him on a rare off night, now it is time for them to see him when he is on.

Roy Oswalt trots to the hill for the Phillies.  The last time the Marlins faced Oswalt, he went with a different strategy, throwing almost only off-speed stuff.  It was a night of curve balls and change ups and it was effective.  Don't know what we will see tonight, whether he will feature the fastball, slider which would be preferred.  Or he could go with the all slow stuff plan again.  Or even still mix all four.  We will see.

Icththyomancy is ready for game number two.

Best of Luck to You!

Stanton crushed that ball...

Thought he struck out, then absolutely destroys the ball for an upper deck shot!

Chris Coghlan is the 2009 NLRoY (that's a +1 for me!)
Josh Johnson for the 2010 NL Cy Young!

Make that 5-1. Sanchez has completely disintegrated.

This inning just goes to show that a poor strike zone can ruin chances at victory

And in a double-header, having a small strike zone is just asinine. The rest of the crew may need to inform the homeplate ump of this.

I just don't get small strike zones...

The pitcher is the one with the harder challenge, why make it even harder (and the game longer) by shrinking that already small zone?

I hate Citizens Bank Park...

And most hitter oriented ballparks in general. Anyone know how the new ballpark is expected to react?

It is suppose to be a pitchers park, that said...

that is what the Astros wanted Minute Maid to be, but it didn’t work out that way. The roof causes some effects that weren’t counted on.

Here are the dimensions of the new Marlins ballpark for you.

335 at the shallowest in RF, 420 at it’s deepest in CF, and 340 at the shallowest in LF

Rice catchers call their own game...

in case you were wondering. And I can’t believe you were.

Better than zero out of two, for sure

I’ll take the wins where they can be had.
