John Baker starts rehab today

John Baker will begin his rehab assignment today.

Catcher John Baker (right arm muscle) will make his first rehab start Friday for Single A Jupiter. Rodriguez said Baker will catch five innings Friday, serve as the designated hitter Saturday and catch nine innings Sunday. If Baker progresses, he could be back with the Marlins in early September.

We naturally wish him the best and can't wait to see him behind the plate again, but I suspect it will take a bit longer than two games to get him game ready.  But no matter, he can come up with the September call-ups when the Marlins can add the whole 40-man roster to the team.  They won't of course, but they could.

If all goes well, Bake will be back with the team soon.  And should it go well, look for him to get a lot playing time.
