End of the road Fish

Well everyone, we know what time of the year is approaching and with the way we are playing we need to expect some changes. We are falling back to much to expect a comeback and this only leaves us to do what we do best...trade our players. I would expect Cody Ross, Jorge Cantu, and Dan Uggla to attract the most interest as we head to the trade deadline but I wouldn't be surprised if Ricky Nolasco was available also. So fellow fishstripes, any predictions on who gets traded where, and for who?

This is why it's hard to be a Marlins fan

We trade and sell everything, and not for better players…but for AAA kids, so Loria can pocket more money. How can we ever win anything when a Motel 6 has a higher yearly budget than the Florida Marlins?

What's more frustrating than being a Marlins and Orioles fan? Eye surgery???

Disagree

Our farm system and AAA talent scouts are the reason the Marlins are revelant in MLB. Beckett for Hanley? Not to mention the fish were the ones to draft Adrian Gonzalez. And how bout recently Cogs and Gaby. I want to trade uggla or Hanley.

Think about Hanley, losing him in 3 years anyway. Imagine what we could get.

You gotta hate to lose more than you want to win

Minor-leaguers?

Best-case scenario, we get a guy who’s going to be as good as Hanley in 3-4 years. And given there’s only one Hanley this generation, what are the odds we get next generation’s Hanley? Not great.

I call him LeBron Jim for short.

Agreed

If Loria spent a few more dollars to keep some players around it would be a lot easier to follow the Marlins. I don’t blame them for shopping someone like Uggla because he is getting paid 10 million probably next year, but trading Cody Ross during the year? Who we going to call up? Maybin?

But Cody's a below-average starter.

Uggla’s going to help this team win games. Cody’s a stopgap at best, and even that’s only if he plays center. I like the guy, but he’s not an asset… nobody would trade for him. He’s not the guy you want, he’s the guy you’re stuck with and make the best of it.

I doubt Nolasco is available

But the other three will all be on the table regardless of our standing in the east. The FO will shop Uggla the most heavily, since he’ll be leaving for greener pastures next year anyway.

Chris Coghlan is NLRoY 2009 (that's a +1 for me!)

lets

deal robertson and wen if we trade uggla, lets get a GOOD lefty starter no Robertsons

Ummm...

We won’t deal Robertson. He’s an adequate fifth starter who is only costing the FO $400,000 this season. If as a starter he continues to be mediocre or worse, they’ll convert him into a reliever.

The team should be selling

I’m optimistic that the club may be able to hold on to Ross for his final arb season, but Uggla is likely out the door (probably making $11-$12M next year). Given that, the team should be selling, but considering the delusion that the club may yet be contention (something Loria has shown in the past), they may keep him and make a bad move.

Oh well....

I really enjoyed the Uggla, Ross, Cantu, Willingham, Hermida, Amezaga Marlins…but all good things come to an end. It sure would be nice to see a new Stanton, Maybin, Sanchez, Bonifacio, Coghlan, Helms managed team develop in their brand new ball park.
