Coghlan to 3B?

I know most people have thought all along that Chris Coghlan would move back to the infield, particularly 2nd base, if the Marlins decided to trade Dan Uggla, But with the rumors of the Marlins holding onto Uggla and potentially dealing Jorge Cantu, does anyone else see this as an opportunity to put Coghlan at 3B the rest of this season? He did play 3B in the minors too. It would give us the opportunity to call up Logan Morrison to play left field. We have just climbed back to .500, and to be quite honest, I think this would give us the best opportunity to win this season as well as in the future. We all know that Cantu is a streaky hitter, but his stats the past 28 days? 0 HR, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 22 Ks, .250 BA. While I'd love for him to be around when he goes on one of his streaks, I think Logan Morrison could be a boost for the now and for the future. Whatever money we save in dealing Cantu can be used to help the bullpen.

Young 'uns

I like it…Coghlan at third…Morrison in left….Stanton in right. Gaby Sanchez will be a veteran leader on the team BEFORE winning Rookie of the Year. Damn shame I’m a Marlin’s fan in Georgia…

It could work this year

But it gets tricky long term since Dominguez is gonna be ready in probably a year or a little more. I don’t see how we could hold on to Uggla when we have guys like Gaby LoMo Coghlan and Dominguez all looking for a position.

could just hold on to Uggla til the end of the year.

hes a veteran on the team, and is still productive, and not a liability at 2nd. Bring up Dominguez at the end of the season on the larger roster, or even sooner if it looks like were out of the hunt. Its very exciting. OP is right about using Cantu as either a money saving way to beef up the bullpen, or even just straight up trading for bullpen help. Lets just hope the FO uses their heads as the trading deadline approaches

i gotta tell you that I love that idea...

I like Cantu, but I just dont see him in the Marlins plans right now, which is why I believe hes gonna get traded soon. Cogs at 3rd could work, and I cant wait to see what Logan Morrison is all about.

Also, I gotta agree with the Gaby turning into the leader of the team idea. Who better to lead this team than one of our own. The guy grew up here, as a Marlins fan no less, so you know he’s loving life right now.

not a bad theory

but have we forgotten how clutch is because of recent play? maybe a switch to the 5 hole wasnt what he needed?

i must say. i like the young guys playing together. were not winning it this year, pitchers are too bad. sad to waste JJ.

You gotta hate to lose more than you want to win

Gaby was a 3B at the U

I don’t see why it’s not in the plans to move him there, let LoMo play 1st, cogs stay at LF. The team is considering signing Danny long term if the beat reporters are to be believed..
