Bullpen becoming an ongoing issue
Bullpen Totals: 76.66 IP 41 ER, 36 BB, 77 H; 4.81 ERA, 1.47 WHIP
bullpen excluding veras (arguably worst reliever so far): 72 IP, 33 ER, 4.12 ERA
bullpen excluding hensley/nunez (2 best relievers so far) : 51.66 IP, 37 ER, 6.45 ERA
this problem started when the FO let calero & donnelly walk last year. brendan makes 1.3 mill for the pirates this year & calero is apparently with the mets? though not on the roster. the 1 mill - 1.5 mill it wouldve taken to keep one of these guys clearly wouldve been worth the risk. sanches' injury also only made it worse.
but wood & leroux just arent mlb material (at least not yet).
only a few things the marlins can do here:
1) trade for a veteran relief pitcher. probably shouldnt be trading minor leaguers though
2) sign a former relief pitcher who's currently not in the league or will soon be dropped. simple--inexpensive--has worked with hensley/calero/donnelly/nelson/borowski
3) bring up some minor leaguers: tucker, vandenhurk, west, tucker, buente, harvey, tank.
i think vandenhurk should be on the roster no matter what. the guy could start or close for the fish right now (& has the stats to prove his ability) but it seems improbable for all of these guys to get BP action outside of buente/harvey/tank since theyre 26-27 years old.
what do you all think???

Eh!
We may pick up a guy. We may bring a guy in from the minors. Is it a concern? I don’t know.
I mean, what do we have? We have Nunez, we have Hensley, and now we have Sanches. We’ve got Pinto, who’s back to his 1.50 WHIP 3.xx ERA form. We’ve got a mop-up guy… currently the Hopper, but if he falters, whatever. No shortage of potential long relievers in the minors.
We’re, what, one arm short here? Two? The addition of Sanches did a lot to make this bullpen look better.
I too would want to see VandenHurk in the majors, and maybe he’ll get his shot.
And I have to admit Hunter Jones came on strong with a couple good outings after that debut — we’ll probably see him again before the year is out.
Meyer was hurt, and he’ll probably get another chance when he’s healthy.
The one guy I think you’re selling short here is Leroux. He’s striking guys out… he’s walking a couple too many, but big deal. The number I’d look at with Leroux is .412 — his BABIP. That is ridiculous, horrendous luck. And he’s still only got a 4.85 ERA. Get that BABIP down to .300 or so, where it’ll regress to, and his ERA is probably 3 at most.
The Magic's total second-round margin of victory: 101 points.
The Hawks' highest second-round game score: 98 points.
