The Marlins announced this afternoon that reliever Jose Veras has been designated for assignment. This kind of thing can happen when you are incapable of pitching a scoreless inning. I guess the powers that be were as fed up as the fans, especially after last night's depressing extra-innings loss in which Veras allowed two runs.
As a few folks wished aloud in yesterday's game thread, Chris Leroux has been called up from New Orleans to take Veras's spot in the bullpen. (It pays to comment, folks. Larry Beinfest is reading.)
It was also announced that Emilio Bonifacio has been optioned to AAA and Brett Carroll has been reinstated from the DL. Brett will be making the start in right field tonight.
Is it just me, or does this sort of feel like Christmas?
