Keeping Barden at the Expense of B.C.?(!)
Anyone else see this on Fish Bytes? If they decide to send B.C. to the minors and carry Barden and Bonifacio, I will be one unhappy camper.
Something unrelated: If you, like myself, found out too late about the fantasy league for Marlins fans on cbssports.com and would like to play free fantasy with other Marlins fans, then look for the league Marlins Fans Unite on cbssports.com free fantasy leagues. I created it earlier today and 9 spots are available. No financial obligation, and the winner of each league is entered in to a drawing to win prizes, including $10,000. I hope this fills up, because it’d be fun to play with other Marlins fans. We can all laugh together when the fish smack around the Mets or Phils, or rant when they get swept by the Nats (ugh). Anyway, hope to see some of you there!
That seems unlikely...
…given that Barden is an infielder, he’s not really in competition with Carroll. I’m all for keeping Bonifacio on the roster, and I’m willing to consider Barden if he earns the job, but we need a fourth outfielder, and unfortunately, we don’t really have any better candidates than Carroll.
(In a perfect world, we wouldn’t be stuck with Wes Helms, but knowing the Marlins, there’s no way Helms doesn’t make the roster. I don’t even know that that’s a bad thing overall — veteran leadership and all that — but in terms of what players can actually bring to the field, I like Barden’s potential as a hitter, Bonifacio’s speed and even Carroll’s defense better than Helms’… whatever Helms does.)
Bass is a kind of fish.
Barden v. Carroll
The point that was made on the Herald that concerned me was the fact that they gave Barden some starts in left field, and apparently they like his versitility as someone who can play both infield and outfield positions. He played something like 15 games in the outfield last year, so the article suggested that Carroll would be the odd man out if they decide that Bardens ability to play anywhere on the diamond makes him worth keeping on the big league roster.
I agree with you about Helms, he had one fantastic of year as a pintch hitter a few years ago and he’s turned that into a nonremovable spot on the bench.
Eh...
…I mean, Coghlan can only play left. (And even that is… eh.) Ross and Maybin… Maybin is a CF, which means he can probably at least manage at another position. We know Ross can play CF and RF, and if he hasn’t played LF, he probably can manage it…
But honestly, I want a defensive replacement for Coghlan. And even if Barden is good enough to fill in at LF, is he good enough to be a strong defender at LF? If not, he may be useful to us, but he’s not our fourth outfielder.
Bass is a kind of fish.
Herald
I often think what the herald claims is entirely unsubstantiated.
