2010 NL East Fan Projections: SPs
2010 NL East Fan Projections: SPs
This is a link to a post I did over at the Braves blog Talking Chop about some of FanGraphs' 2010 fan projections, including projections for the Marlins' starters. I thought it would be relevant to you guys, so head on over to take a look if you're interested. There are lots of cool graphs, too. (The Marlins rotation ranks as the 3rd best in the division by these projections. Feel free to comment if you disagree--I'm trying to get fans of other teams to give their opinions as well.)

Nice work
And third sounds about right for us, but maybe a couple surprises from one of mid/back-end rotation guys and we could be pretty close to #2. Hamels is good, and Philly’s 3-5 is solid, but none of the four have much upside/downside.
yeah looks right to me.
we have the 2nd best SP in the east with Johnson, and Nolasco generally is good, but after that we need Miller or Volstad or someone to step up and have a good year. i like our chances that one of our talented arms could do that though
GO:Gators, Dolphins, Heat, Marlins, and Yankees
he who fears losing, has already lost
Nolasco and Johnson should both have good years, as indicated
The big question is which of the others is going to have a decent (read: not horrible) year. West would be my pick to have a breakout year, but its clear that Volstad, Miller, and Sanchez need to start showing something. Badenhop will fall apart this year if the staff relies on him as much as they did last year.
Chris Coghlan is NLRoY (that's a +1 for me!)
Miami Dolphins are headed back to the Playoffs (fail...)
Wants to see Mardy Gilyard in a Dolphins uniform next season, make it happen Parcells!
Sanchez looked strong late last year.
Control wasn’t great, but everything else was. His velocity was back up for the first time since his injury. And reports suggest he’s greatly improved his conditioning over the winter. I give him the best chance of anyone other than JJ/Nolasco to have a good year…
…with the possible exception of VandenHurk. If Henricus VandenHurk stays healthy, he will be a solid third/fourth starter. Bank on it. (It might help him if he goes by “Henricus,” though. I mean, you have that name… use it. It’s like Giancarlo Stanton calling himself Mike.
Volstad’s also got a pretty good shot… he seemed a bit underdeveloped last year, but he still has that awesome sinker/curveball, which is a great foundation to build on.
I don’t have a handle on West… he may have the stuff to be an above-average pitcher, but I don’t know.
Not at all high on Miller. He had that lousy delivery, which is gone now… so now he’s trying to throw with a delivery that wasn’t the one that got him drafted, and his arm’s probably damaged too. I hope I’m wrong, but I can’t see this ending well.
(I’ll say this again… can’t we just move Badenhop into the rotation? He seems pretty sturdy… he could probably handle it.)
It's a good thing Larry Bird's initials weren't MJ. '80s basketball was confusing enough -- Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Marles Jarkley, Mominique Jilkins... Makeem Jolajuwon...
