Pitchers and Catchers hit the field today
This is the time when we can all start setting our sights for the upcoming season and leave the harshness of winter behind. Forget that crap about Punxsutawney Phil, the true measure of when spring starts is when pitchers and catchers take the field.
The players will report early today for physicals and then begin their workouts. Some are guaranteed a spot on the team, others will be trying to break through into the bigs, while some will be hoping to extend their careers for another year. But whatever the case it is always interesting.
The Marlins officially open camp at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla., and the workouts are open to the public. There is no charge.
On the back fields of the complex, the Marlins pitchers and catchers will get their drills underway roughly at 1:30 p.m.
The full squad workouts will start on Wednesday. So if you get the chance to make it out to Jupiter, we recommend you do it.
Welcome back baseball.
