Dan Uggla Traded to the Braves

As of now, Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton's cries of "His name is DAN UGGLA!" will no longer incite celebration from Fish fans. In fact, expect the line to incite a string of expletives.

The rumors became reality Tuesday as the Marlins traded their power-hitting second baseman to a division rival, sending Uggla and his 30-homers-a-season to the Atlanta Braves for infielder Omar Infante and lefty reliever Mike Dunn.

The Atlanta Braves acquired All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla from the Florida Marlins on Tuesday in a trade for utility man Omar Infante and pitcher Mike Dunn, a league source told ESPN.com.

---

Uggla is expected to play second base for Atlanta. His arrival frees up Martin Prado to share time at first base with rookie Freddie Freeman, provides insurance for Chipper Jones at third, and also log some at-bats in left field.

Infante was a first-time All-Star who hit a career-high .321 with eight homers and 47 RBIs. Dunn was 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in 25 games in his rookie season.

I'm not sure where exactly the fire was, but apparently there wasn't time to entertain a few other offers--say, from teams not in our division--before settling for what appears to be too little for the slugger.

FishStripes will have more on this move later, but for now we'll say it would be a lot easier to wish Danny well were the Marlins not going to have to face him in 18 games next season.
