John Sickels' Florida Marlins Top 20 Prospects for 2010

Our SBNation colleague John Sickels presents his Top 20 prospects for all teams and recently he covered the Marlins.

Florida Marlins Top 20 Prospects for 2010

As expected Mike Stanton is the Marlins top prospect.

Here is some of what he had to say about him.

Beginning with the hitters, you have Mike Stanton, who has the tools to be a superstar but also has the potential to crash and burn badly if he's rushed too fast. He needs another 300 at-bats in Double-A, and 400 in Triple-A, before being pushed to the majors. He has All-Star upside, but he still has flaws in his game that could prevent his talent from fully coming through if he's not handled properly.

Got to say I agree with this in that rushing him to majors could be disastrous to his career.

Give the article a look see, if you are interested in the Marlins top farm hands.  If you are really interested, buy John's book: The Baseball Prospect Book 2010 where he goes into more detail.  It is one of the best books at ranking the prospects around, I buy it and you should too.

Top Marlins prospects

Interesting to compare 2010 ratings and comments with 2009 (which I snagged from hte FishStripes archives)

Check out what he said about Coughlin

9) Chris Coghlan, 2B, Grade B-: Nice steady contact hitter, won’t be a star but should have a long career.

He sure looked more like an A+ in August and September than a B-

Also I bet the Marlins management a year ago would have rated him as number 1 not number 9.
