Hanley or Uggla?
Basically I just want to put 2 polls in here, but I'm not sure how to do one, so this could be interesting.
Based on the news of Hanley v. Uggla last night, and Hanley v. Helms a month ago, I thought I would take a couple of polls regard said fights (verbal and/or physical), and the players themselves...
And apparently I can old add one poll, so we will go with the one below. But I wold also be interested in knowing who everyone thinks would have one the fights if they had managed to get physical and, say, in UFC octagon. I'm go with Uggla with a first round K/O and Hanley versus Uncle Wes, based on the age difference... though Wes looks like he could throw down.
I'll also go out on a limb and say, despite being a future HOF'er most likely, if the Marlins can take Hanley to the bank and get a solid SS, solid SP, and some farm restocking, I might consider the move this off-season. If in the future it came to JJ or Hanley, I'd rather JJ and that trade could make it possible. Moreover, Hanley has been trouble in the clubhouse this year and on a team of minimum salary players you can't have a Manny-being-Manny player. He's shown no sign of maturing this season...

Hanley vs. Uggla
This is NOT about who has more talent, that’s obvious. This IS about being a team leader if your team mates put you in the position to be.
Hanley could be a leader because of his talent and therefore his team mates look up to him. He’s not though because of his actions. When he has a problem he does not address it with the team or team mate. He takes it to the media and sulks. Remember the hair cut issue in spring training? I hope he grows up real soon so his attitude equals his talent.

I think it's a no-brainer.
I wish they would keep both of them, but if they have to move one, Uggla’s gotta go. The only advantage Uggla has on Hanley as a player is that he hits more homers, but even that gap isn’t that large: Hanley’s at 98 career HRs, Uggla’s at 115.
Moreover, Uggla will turn 30 before next season begins. He’s 4+ years older than Hanley. On that alone you’d have to part with Uggla before Hanley.
As far as behavioral issues, plenty of guys have real personality problems and their team still wins. You don’t trade a guy only because of that. Heck, the Giants almost won the World Series with the ultimate me-first guy, Barry Bonds.
And don’t assume that by trading a superstar, you’ll get equally talented prospects back. Prospects are prospects, and you know how even the best ones can flame out in the majors. Look at how lopsided the Miguel Cabrera trade is looking pretty right now—Miller’s on the verge of a bust, and even if Maybin excels, it’s still not a lot to show for one of the game’s top 3 or 4 pure hitters. I’d rather get a lesser return on Uggla than make a high-risk, high-reward trade of our best player (again).

The counter to that is the Lowell/Beckett trade that netted us Hanley, Anibal, and Badenhop
Sometimes it works out. However, the Cabrera trade was clearly a reach, and I still wish we had been able to somehow sign him long-term (I know, this is the team that rarely gives anyone big money, but I can dream).
As for Uggla, I would love to hang onto him, as he and Cody Ross are the only two pure sluggers we have (we need at least one), but if the cost is too high, I’d be able to deal with it.

The Hopper was part of the Cabrera trade, but that doesn't change your point...

Who else did we get in the Boston trade?
I always get the guys other than Hanley and Anibal confused.

We also got minor-league pitcher Jesus Delgado.
He never turned out to be anything and I don’t even know if he’s still in our system.
The Red Sox also got Guillermo Mota.

Hanley
I’d agree with fishcrazy. Prospects are prospects, you can’t bank on a prospect Look at miller. Anyway I hope we can lock up JJ and at least get some sort of contract for uggla, Nolasco, and Cody. I just don’t want another fire sale. We’ve got some talent in the organazation.

I thought it was kind of a given that Uggla was leaving.
Don’t get me wrong — I like Uggla. Good power hitter, good on-base percentage, not a good fielder but not as horrific as some people claim. But Coghlan is this team’s second baseman of the future, and we all know that. So how much can we afford to pay Uggla for doing a job that Coghlan can do at least as well?
(As for “leadership” — pffft. Baseball is an individual sport. With the possible exception of a pitcher and catcher, nobody needs to work together. You just go up there and hit the thing.)
He's currently two-thirds man, one-third amazing. Which, let's face it, is still a pretty good ratio.

it is a given, though it's still fun to discuss it.
If/when Coghlan does move to second, I wonder who replaces him in left. I hope it’s not Hermida…time to move on with him.

Maybin or Carroll? Maybe Ross if Maybin in CF? Would just be for a season until Stanton got here.

Ross LF / Maybin CF / Carroll RF
That’s a nasty defensive outfield… would be great with the park we have. Anyway i think Carroll has show enough at the plate to start over Herm in the future, or at least I think so.

Nolasco would likely have a balls crazy year with that OF
How good/bad Nolasco is really does come down to how many FBs land and fall for XBH.
That’s the OF I’m hoping for next year. And Cousins should be ready soon, which gives us another elite OF option since no way Cody is here in ‘11. And by ’11 Stanton should have a spot (Who’s a plus defender), and we could then platoon Cousins and Carroll.
He’s really the only FB pitcher on the staff though. JJ, Volstad, Miller, and West are all GB pitchers, and Anibal’s 1:1 really. RVH is a FB pitcher but he doesn’t have the ability to go deep enough in games to be a long term starter. And for the only guys that’ll matter in the upper minors next year, Winters is a GB pitcher and Sanabia should be a GB pitcher but might be 1:1.
However, we also have a ton of FB pitchers in our bullpen (Meyer, Nunez, Sanches, et al)

You must not really know anything about baseball if you think only the pitcher and catcher works together.

I agree with him.
Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent despised each other, yet the Giants were a couple innings from winning the World Series. I think the entirety of the “Ball Four”-era Yankees hated one another. But baseball is a job just like any other—regardless of whether you’re bestest friends with your double-play partners, you still go out and do your job. It’s not like players go out and flub double plays because their feelings are hurt.
Now, you’d certainly prefer to have a tightly knit team, the kind where everyone hangs out at each other’s house over the offseason. But it’s not required. It’s baseball, not summer camp.
