PrintEmilio Bonifacio is trying to get permission from the Marlins to play winter ball.
Emilio Bonifacio had great numbers for Licey in the Dominican winter league last offseason and he would like to reprise his role. The Marlins have not yet given him the green light, but Bonifacio said it would be a great help considering he's totaled just 11 at-bats since Aug. 23.
Oh heck, let him. Maybe he will get better. Just so long as everyone understands that good winter ball numbers do not always translate into good MLB numbers. If nothing else, maybe they will teach him how to lay down a sacrifice bunt. Which is definitely something he hasn't mastered.

They should let him do this.
I know everyone’s down on Bonifacio, but I still say he’d be a great utility man to have if he could just practice his defense and get on base a trifle more.
He's currently two-thirds man, one-third amazing. Which, let's face it, is still a pretty good ratio.
