Marcell Ozuna Topps Player of the Month for July

I was going to lump this into the Flotsam and Jetsam but then I thought the better of it.  I mean, c'mon, when a 18-year old receives accolades for being the best player in the GCL for the month of July, it deserves its own post.  So here it is:

Topps selected Marcell Ozuna as the top player in the GCL for the month of July.

Marcell Ozuna (18) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, finished second in the Gulf Coast League with a .396 average for the Marlins. His 21 RBI tied for the league lead. Ozuna led the GCL in total bases with 62, thanks in large part to his 15 doubles. The Florida Marlins inked him as a free agent in February 2008.

In case you didn't know it, and why should you, Marcell is the right fielder for the GCL team, so he is not hopelessly blocked should he continue to develop.  He is 6' 2" and a 190 lbs at the age of 18.  But he still has a long way to go and there are some very good outfield prospects ahead of him.  But forget that for now, he won an award and that ain't bad.

Congratulations Marcell.

Gaby on the bench again tonight

Same crappy lineup that hasn’t produced a W in the last 3 games. Fredi’s getting creative… in his rock paper scissor patterns

They won on Friday, actually.

And they’ve scored 13 runs in the last 3 games. Not great, but not horrible. They gave up 14 — practically speaking, the Atlanta series was a coin flip. Batters did average, pitchers did average. And given that Atlanta has strong pitching and a weak lineup, I’d be less inclined to point the finger at the batters.

He's currently two-thirds man, one-third amazing. Which, let's face it, is still a pretty good ratio.
