Esteban Yan

Oh boy, I can hardly contain myself at the prospect of Estaban Yan returning after a 3 year hiatus from the majors.

Star-divide

Not a surprising move, given our propensity for having an all trash heap bullpen this year in addition to Ayala and Donnelly. Though I guess another bullpen arm not named Pinto couldn't hurt.

The Yan Era begins

Interesting note at the end of JRC’s post, where he lists former Marlins currently in the independent Atlantic league:

Gary Knotts, Nate Bump, Felix Rodriguez, Preston Wilson, Hansel Izquierdo, Antonio Alfonseca, Carl Everett, Jay Gibbons, Jacque Jones, Armando Benitez, Jason Standridge, Matt Padgett

So that’s where El Pulpo is these days. And I had no idea Wilson was still playing anywhere.

Why can't we make a waiver claim?

We are fighting for October and we are picking up the scraps of professional baseball instead of taking a chance with a Padilla, Davis, Smoltz, etc. Can’t we try someone whose seen a real bat and clubhouse since our last world series?

I would hope it's just minor league filler

Having done the Organizational Depth Chart, I can tell you that the pitching staffs have basically been shuttling players back and forth for the last week or so. Jeff Allison had to make an emergency start in Jacksonville, Jupiter just sent their closer straight to New Orleans and picked up somebody from the Gulf Coast League, and as you can see, neither New Orleans nor Jacksonville has an established 5th starter right now.
