Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Diamondbacks (7/9)
Florida Marlins at Arizona Diamondbacks, Jul 9, 2009 9:40 PM EDT
The Marlins are in Arizona to face the red-hot Diamondbacks in a four game set. The D'backs are presently on a five-game win streak. When the teams met in May the Diamondbacks won three of the four games in Florida. Hoping to return the favor.
Big Game Andrew is on tap put a stop to the streaking home team. When BGA faced the D'backs earlier in the season, he had a very good outing going 7 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 9 but did not get the decision.
Yusmeiro Petit! You have got to be kidding. And who says irony doesn't have a sense of humor. If you will recall, Petit is the player who the Marlins basically gave to Arizona for Jorge Julio. Petit is recently off the DL (shoulder injury) and did not pitch well in his first start back. This will be his second.
Ichthyomancy is ready to go.
Best of Luck to You!

Can someone explain the ichthyomancy picks to me?
So far i’ve realized you guess the attendance, a player, and exact prediction.
How close does the attendance guess have to be to get a point? And when i pick a player, what am I predicting he’s going to do?
I’m new here obviously.. haha.
by tdp992 on Jul 9, 2009 8:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
you've got it, basically.
Whoever comes closest to the attendance number wins it. Theres a post somewhere that explains it all… Somebody who knows where to find that can provide a link.

thanks
well i understand 2 of the three picks now. I just don’t understand the second pick where you name a player. What does the player have to do for you to get a point?

Report on the Hopper
Burke Badenhop left the game with a left knee contusion after getting hit by a line-drive. Marlins Media via twitter
by craig on Jul 9, 2009 11:38 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
contusion??
is that a bruise, cut, what?
by LadyFish on Jul 9, 2009 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
it's a bruise....
the next question is how bad is it?
by craig on Jul 9, 2009 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Tim Wood may not leave after all
though Hopper would have to be put on the DL for him to stay, right?
by LadyFish on Jul 9, 2009 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
What's the shortest time
a player can be put on the DL?
by LadyFish on Jul 9, 2009 11:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
15-days in the Majors.....
the minors have a 7-day DL

Talk about a turn around
GameFish won’t believe this when she sees the score!
by LadyFish on Jul 10, 2009 12:49 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
what was the score when she went to bed?
by craig on Jul 10, 2009 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I am lamenting this on the air right now. You have both been mentioned (in between the tears)...
I went to bed when it was 6-0, before Hop got hit. I can’t believe I missed it!!!! Stupid West coast!!!!!!

Even on the winning side of that inninng...
it felt like forever

Sorry guys...
… think I jinxed us by wondering a loud if we’d make it through the order twice in an inning.

On a side note,
I made a bet with a Giants fan that this game would last longer than the Giants game that started an hour later. They were neck and neck until Kiko came in, leaving SF behind in the 7th. That game finished before ours left the top of the 8th. :D
by BacksThePack on Jul 10, 2009 12:59 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Last time I recall was when West had the no-hitter going
Of course that was very temporary

The best part about living on the west coast...
… late games over by 11 (unless it’s Hawaii football games, but I don’t think the East Coast even knows they play seeing as kickoff is midnight eastern)
