Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Giants (7/8)

Florida Marlins at San Francisco Giants, Jul 8, 2009 3:45 PM EDT

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Chris Volstad 5-8 17 17 0 0 0 0 98.1 96 57 53 17 30 71 4.85 1.28

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Ryan Sadowski 2-0 2 2 0 0 0 0 13.0 7 0 0 0 4 6 0.00 .85

The Marlins are in sweep avoidance mode.

Volstad hopefully will be able to have his sinker actually sink and keep the ball in the park in the process.  When he faced the Giants earlier in the year, he took the loss, but really wasn't his fault since he went six innings and only allowed two runs.

Sadowski is also a sinker ball pitcher.  He doesn't strikeout that many and when he pitches the ball is put into play, generally on the ground.  The kid was born in Miami, in case that comes up on a quiz show.

The Marlins have lost five consecutive road games and it is time for that streak to come to an end.

Ichthyomancy hates day games and it doesn't matter what coast they are on.

Best of Luck to You!

We should trade Hanley.

Clearly, the offense has enough firepower without him.

Fish call up infielder Andy Gonzalez, option De Aza to NO, move Alfredito to 60-day DL. And no Hanley again today. Yippee.

Lazy Hanley.

Bo Jackson played with an artificial hip. What’s Hanley’s excuse?

by Fishcrazy on Jul 8, 2009 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

poor De Aza

I don’t think he’s a world beater, but I’d love to see him stick around for a while. Maybe they’re afraid he’ll hurt himself if he stays up too long.

I’ve conceded the ichtho picks, but here’s my hopeful AAB — Hanley, 9th inning pinch hit HR.

Someone tell Chris

that kimonos are Japanese not Chinese, and that was not a kimono. But the show was cute nonetheless. Nice to see the misadventures again.

Volstad is looking good so far.

Or at least his line in the box score is. And let me tell you, that’s exciting to watch.

been there--

very exciting. Sorry you can’t watch.

arg.

this would be the one game in the series worth watching… you know, the one that most of us can’t.

by GameFish on Jul 8, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions

i'm not sorry, it's more fun this way.

it’s just like the old radio days, before the advent of TV.

except that we’re watching it on the internet. and no one’s telling us what’s going on.

I know I made my picks long before the game...

But I had Volstad QS as my AAB and didn’t get my point. Thanks.
