Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Giants (7/6)

The Marlins are in San Francisco to play the first game of the three-game set with the Giants.

Sean West didn't pitch very well in last start.  He gave up 5 runs, 8 hits, 3 walks in only 4.1 innings.  Needless to say, he didn't factor into the decision.  West faced the Giants earlier in the season making his best start of the season going 8 innings, 2 hits and 0 runs.

Cain has pitched very well this season and that may be an understatement.  The good thing about a Cain start is the Giants offense can't be bothered to score any runs.  This will be his first start against the Fish this year.

We are out on the West Coast and you know what means...the return of Midnight Baseball!  Woo Hoo!

Ichthyomancy is ready to find out what it is all about.

Best of Luck to You!

so is there any official explanation for Nolasco's rebound?

Were his mechanics off? Was it the always-popular “putting too much pressure” on himself?

Gaby/3B update in that fanpost.

Summary so you don’t have to read it: the guy who had been the Zephyrs 3B before Gaby started playing there a few weeks ago was traded. But Gaby has been splitting roughly 50/50 between first and third, so I don’t know if it means anything.

And in other New Orleans news, Luis Ayala’s first appearance tonight went well. One inning, no hits, no walks, one strikeout.

that first sentence is a doozy...

let’s break it down: a guy played third for New Orleans; Gaby went to NO a few weeks ago and started playing third; that other guy was traded recently.

But you knew that already.

nice rally by the fish even if it came up short

although i would’ve liked to have seen hanley pinch hit for bonifacio. any reason why it didn’t happen?

My guess is that he had a cross country flight to get to the game

and it was a cold evening and neither of those are a good situation for a strained hip flexor.
