Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Braves at Marlins (7/30)
Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins, Jul 30, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Breakout the brooms Florida, because the Marlins are going for the sweep.
VandenHurk will be making his first home start of the season. In the Incredible Hurk's last outing he faced some though situations but battled his way through them to put up a solid 5 innings giving up 5 hits and only allowing one run.
Vazquez is going for his fourth win in-a-row. Vazquez only uses his fast ball (91 mph) 50 percent of the time. The rest of the time he kinda sorta, if you squint your eyes just right, equally distributes the remaining 40 percent between his slider, curve and change. His curve ball is his best pitch and it is a very good one.
Ichthyomancy is all sorts of lost, who knew every road had fifteen different names?
Best of Luck to You!

Enjoy the game tonight craig
Get the chicken fingers with BBQ sauce, from a stand with fries not the chips!

Cantu
Bullpen gives up 0 runs, <4 hits
Sherrill's off the market.
Traded to the Dodgers for two prospects.
Those selfish bastards. They already have Broxton! Couldn’t they have shared with us?
This is interesting...
“ESPN’s Jayson Stark tosses in this nugget: the Marlins made a run at Roy Halladay but balked at an asking price that included Cameron Maybin and Mike Stanton.”
Might as well check the price tag

Bill Hahns mustache jumps off his face, does a little dance, then throws out another Brave
Rosenthal says the Fish are "making a strong push" for Nick Johnson
I love me some Nick Johnson, but really? We’re going to trade a Tucker or Thompson for like sixty days of Nick Johnson?

oh right, link would be helpful

Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
i don't get that at all.
we don’t need help at 1B; he’s a rental; gload’s numbers are similar; we need our young arms…
really, why the heck would they do this? did they forget that willingham is not named nick johnson?
presumably it'd be Johnson at 1B and Cantu back at 3B
and Boner on the bench
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
I would trade Johnson to put Boner on the bench
Not quite, but I would give up what it takes for Johnson to see that happen.
I heard craig still uses a rotary phone
so I doubt we’ll get any mobile commenting, unless he mooches GameFish’s phone.
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
What the hell is a rotary phone?
Now that I think of it, I don’t ever remember having wifi there (iphone). Just the stadium page which I couldn’t leave.
Probably have to pay for it.
One of the ones you have to spin for each number

heard a great piece of trivia on the radio
Hermida 2008: .249, 17 HR, 61 RBI
Herm 09 pace: .249, 17 HR, 61 RBI
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
although checking the math just now
technically his homer total rounds up to 18, but still…
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
at least he's consistent.
even if it’s consistently mediocre.
still, nothing beats Adam Dunn:
2005: 40 HR
2006: 40 HR
2007: 40 HR
2008: 40 HR
He’s projected to hit 41 HR this year. He better take it down a notch.
R VandenHurk 5.0 3 2 2 0 8 0 71-53 2.81
Sure looks it, that’s an 8

boy, Gaby is just not into sticking around when he gets a chance to hit
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
Oh Mr. Samson
“So just how much do the Blue Jays want for Halladay? Marlins president David Samson told 790 The Ticket that J.P. Ricciardi wants ‘two left legs, a right arm and a left cerebellum’ for Doc, according to the Miami Herald.”
Boner willed that pitch wild
Speed, defense, and psychic powers

Helms owed me his hit from the other night
When I called him “tired ass Helms”
TIE GAME!
For being a pine-tar cheating replacement player
I like Donnelly.
In the same vein
Have the Marlins had the most replacement players under contract of any team ever?
Kevin Millar, Donnelly, Kerry Ligtenberg…I’m sure I missed some
That post seems lame
I thought I could come up with more
seems easy enough to figure out
I’ll run through them after the game
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
I'll tell you one thing with the Marlins...
… at least they know how to keep you at the game the whole time for the most part or from changing the channel.
Go Nevada Wolf Pack!
Wow that sucked
I thought he was faster than that
like Final Destination
the double play comes after you even when you get out of it the first time

this may be wrong to say,
but this kid in the just for men commercial is weird-looking and kind of creepy
I went to the bathroom and wasn't here to complain about Gload
And he still got a hit!
