Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Braves at Marlins (7/30)

Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins, Jul 30, 2009 7:10 PM EDT

Next Game

Atlanta Braves
@ Florida Marlins

Thursday, Jul 30, 2009, 7:10 PM EDT
Land Shark Stadium

Javier Vazquez vs Rick VandenHurk

Mostly clear. Winds blowing from right to left field at 5-15 m.p.h. Game time temperature around 85.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Javier Vazquez 8-7 21 20 1 0 0 0 133.0 115 47 44 11 27 150 2.98 1.07

Breakout the brooms Florida, because the Marlins are going for the sweep.

VandenHurk will be making his first home start of the season.  In the Incredible Hurk's last outing he faced some though situations but battled his way through them to put up a solid 5 innings giving up 5 hits and only allowing one run.

Vazquez is going for his fourth win in-a-row.  Vazquez only uses his fast ball (91 mph) 50 percent of the time.  The rest of the time he kinda sorta, if you squint your eyes just right, equally distributes the remaining 40 percent between his slider, curve and change.  His curve ball is his best pitch and it is a very good one.

Ichthyomancy is all sorts of lost, who knew every road had fifteen different names?

Best of Luck to You!

Sherrill's off the market.

Traded to the Dodgers for two prospects.

Those selfish bastards. They already have Broxton! Couldn’t they have shared with us?

This is interesting...

“ESPN’s Jayson Stark tosses in this nugget: the Marlins made a run at Roy Halladay but balked at an asking price that included Cameron Maybin and Mike Stanton.”

by Bumppo on Jul 30, 2009 5:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

that's in my fanpost.

There’s several other Stark nuggets in there, as well.

Rosenthal says the Fish are "making a strong push" for Nick Johnson

I love me some Nick Johnson, but really? We’re going to trade a Tucker or Thompson for like sixty days of Nick Johnson?

i don't get that at all.

we don’t need help at 1B; he’s a rental; gload’s numbers are similar; we need our young arms…

really, why the heck would they do this? did they forget that willingham is not named nick johnson?

by Fishcrazy on Jul 30, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

presumably it'd be Johnson at 1B and Cantu back at 3B

and Boner on the bench

I would trade Johnson to put Boner on the bench

Not quite, but I would give up what it takes for Johnson to see that happen.

so I doubt we’ll get any mobile commenting, unless he mooches GameFish’s phone.

What the hell is a rotary phone?

Now that I think of it, I don’t ever remember having wifi there (iphone). Just the stadium page which I couldn’t leave.

Probably have to pay for it.

at least he's consistent.

even if it’s consistently mediocre.

still, nothing beats Adam Dunn:
2005: 40 HR
2006: 40 HR
2007: 40 HR
2008: 40 HR

He’s projected to hit 41 HR this year. He better take it down a notch.
