Gaby Sanchez on his way to the Bigs
Clark Spencer is reporting, via twitter, the Marlins are bringing Gaby Sanchez up to the big club.
clarkspencerThe Marlins are calling up 1b/3b Gaby Sanchez from N.O. to replace LHP Andrew Miller, who was optioned.
Woo Hoo!
Now comes the interesting part of this call up, does Gaby ride the bench, aka Robert Andino, or does the club finally come to their senses and sit Bonifacio on the pine to be used as the utility man?
Please tell me that the Marlins have a new starting third baseman.

Finally!
This is great news. They should have called Sanchez up a long time ago. Now all they have to do is actually start him. I would be dissappointed if he is not given a real shot, now that he is with the Big League club. I hope they throw him in there and see what he can do, not just give him spot starts. I really don’t think there is any way possible he could perform worse than Bonifacio, so there is little downside to starting him. But to be honest, I don’t think it will even be close. I think Sanchez will perform and we will have a new corner infielder.

Move Boni to utility infielder where we need him.

This is great
I went to the game last night in San Diego, and couldn’t stop complaining about Bonifacio. From not being able to get to the ground ball one step to his left to coming to bat with the bases loaded and two outs to the error in the ninth. There’s just no confidence in the third base position right now, a change in personnel could help with that.

About Time
Bench Bonifacio and play Gaby. He can’t be worse than Bonifacio at 3rd.
I wonder in what spot will he be batting. Hmmmm

Considering Bonifacio's walk drove in the winning run,
that’ll probably get him another month’s reprieve. Remember, he’s a “winner”!
I’ll bet they won’t pull the plug on Bonifacio. Instead, they’ll get Gaby some limited playing time whenever they rest someone—e.g., Uggla rests, Boni goes to 2B, Gaby plays 3B; or Cantu rests, Gaby plays 1B.
And then after a few weeks of Gaby maybe getting 4 ABs per week, they’ll send him back down so he can “stay active” or whatever.

On second thought, this is probably much less than we're making it.
As Juan C. Rodriquez at the Sentinel <a href=‘http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marlins/2009/07/florida-marlins-option-lhp-andrew-miller-to-triplea.html">points out, Andy Gonzalez can’t be recalled for 10 days, and the Fish needed another backup infielder. So their rationale is probably, “Why not let a top prospect get a few ABs in the majors while mostly riding the pine?”
If that’s correct, then that’s hardly a grand changing of the guard at 3B.

FINALLYYYYYYYYYY
also, I was impressed 2 people got the attendance pick yesterday… then I realized HadMatter copied me. Oh well, I guess better then him beating me by 1 attendee.
I hope Gaby coming up means some rest for Cantu’s wrist and the end of the Bonifacio experiment. But then again, I hoped lightening would strike and the Jorge Julio/Armando Benitez experiments would end sooner too..

Hope this works out for us
Been looking forward to seeing Gaby.
As much as I love all the Marlins, including Emilio, I think it’s been clear for a while that he’s not ready to be an everyday starter, at least not at third.
I can't feel my face.

I wouldn't get your hopes up
Boni will still be our starting 3B. Gaby’s not really one of our top prospects either. He’s one of the most MLB-ready, but he’s about average. I’ve heard his defense is nothing to brag about either, but it’s nice to have another IF available. The FO is still in love with Boni.

Now...
… how does this pick thing work? I know the first one is attendence, but the other two confound me as to what they could be.

Ichthyomancy Picks
The first is attendance
The second is for Player of the Game (MVP). There will usually be three chosen for each game.
The third is for AAB (Above and Beyond). This is where you predict something that will happen in the game. More than one point may be rewarded for the AAB if multiple predictions (all most come true) or if it is exact (1 HR vs. 1+ HR), or if it is highly unlikely to happen (player hits for the cycle).
It’s all in good fun—join in!

Or for a more thorough explanation...
you can click on the “What is this?” link on the right hand side of the opening page at the bottom of the Ichthyomancy table. (The explanation will be at the top of the linked page).
