The Hanley Ramirez RBI streak a record setter
Sure, Hanley Ramirez broke the Marlins team record for consecutive games with at least one RBI, but yesterday he did more than just add to his total: He set the new record for NL shortstops.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Ramirez is the first National League shortstop to have a string of 10 straight games with an RBI. The research goes back to 1920, the first year the RBI became an official statistic.

Coghlan for Sherril?
Not happening according to Ken Rosenthal via mlbtrade rumors:
The Marlins’ closer, Matt Lindstrom, is currently on the shelf with an elbow sprain. Rosenthal says the Fish would not be willing to part with Chris Coghlan for Sherrill, though the O’s like the rookie. The Orioles have a clear organizational need on the left side of the infield.
oh, that would be awful!!
Maybe I’ve got my blinders on, but I really like Coghlan and think he can become a dependable .280-.300 hitter. Sherril’s not bad, but he’s nothing more than a second-tier closer. Despite the Marlins’ woes in that position, closers aren’t that hard to find. Better to keep looking than make a hasty trade out of desperation.
And here are my Thursday picks:

Hanley still gets an RBI
Yeah, that would be upsurd to get rid of Cog...
He’s really growing on me. I see a lot of potential in that kid, especially in that #2 spot in the lineup. I’d like to see him in a marlins uni for a long, long time.
There’s got to be someone we can give up to get a good closer though. Who knows who the management will actually let go? I heard rumors they were gonna give up the ball boy for Manny, but the management just couldn’t let him go.
Album coming soon

heh.
I think the deal was Hermida, Mike Stanton and Ryan Tucker for Manny, with the Red Sox paying most of Manny’s salary. I believe it fell apart because the Marlins also wanted another prospect along with Manny.
The F.O. will definitely pull the trigger on a trade—Urbina, Lo Duca/Mota/Encarnacion, Rhodes, various fire sales, etc.—so I wouldn’t worry about that. They just rarely and infrequently give up top prospects.
Given that Manny only would’ve been a two-month rental and would’ve cost them Stanton, I’m glad they didn’t do it, even as painful as it was to watch Manny take L.A. to the playoffs.
The Manny Deal
fell apart because it was a 3 team trade – the Marlins offered a list of prospects instead of Stanton and the Pirates liked none of them. Without Stanton involved, they liked the dodgers end better…
