Groundbreaking for the New Stadium is today
The groundbreaking for the Marlins new home in Little Havana is today. The event goes from 10:00 a.m. until noon. The official ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m. If you go, get there early because only the first 1000 people get the voucher for a free lunch and the ground breaking pin. (Could Samson be any cheaper?)
Here are all the details:
If are unable to attend but would like to view the festivities the webcam is your best bet.
If you are going to attend, take your camera with you, because we would all love to see the pictures.

Report from the Orange Bowl
I woke up at 9am this morning to head a couple blocks west and check out the festivities. To say the least, it was typical Miami – great appearance, meh organization.
There was a line to get in the wrapped around the corner, even after the pins were dispersed (i didn’t get one :( ) They started at 11am, unlike the announced 10am start. They left one whole bleachers section open (the one with the most shade) in case sponsors needed more space from their two sections, and then finally opened it at 11 as the events started, leading to a mad rush. I saw 2 people pass out from heat exhaustion while they were waiting for them to open up more seating. The ceremony itself was pretty solid, though it definitely dragged on. One commissioner got boo’d and there were scattered boo’s for Selig. Jack McKeon and the term “air conditioning” got the largest ovations. Lots of “Please tell me why you walked Bako” when Van Horne announced Fredi was there. Still waiting for a response on that one.
When the ground breaking came, they let all the media and VIPs get in front of the plate, so all the people in the stands couldn’t see anything or take their own pictures. Eventually they pushed a couple people away, but perhaps 1 section got a view because of that. They apparently let people then go shovel if they wanted to, but my patience ended by then.
Players that were there included Santiago and Hough, Hanley, Meyer, Lindstrom, Ricky, and about 3 or 4 others.
Nobody seemed to upset about the lack of pins. They were selling soda and water for a $1… so that was impressive. I took a couple pictures, I’ll try to get them up tomorrow. The videos they showed, by the way, were awesome.
