Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Nationals at Marlins (7/1)
Washington Nationals at Miami Marlins, Jul 1, 2009 12:10 PM EDT
Breakout the brooms Florida, 'cause the Marlins are going for the sweep.
First off - Happy Canada Day! Chris Leroux was a day early in pitching his best game of the season. In case you didn't know, Chris is a native of our neighbor to the North.
Josh Johnson is Josh Johnson, need I say more?
Jordan Zimmerman will be making his first start against the Marlins. He is a fast ball (93.3 mph), curve, slider, type of pitcher who has a show me change. He tends to pitch better at night and at home.
Today is Camp Day! YAAAY! Camp Days are special because the Marlins get a very large and very vocal crowd for a day game and they are all rooting for the Marlins. Typically the Marlins don't do all that well on Camp Day. Oh sure, the team is used to playing before a large crowd but playing in front of one that is cheering for them -- it kinda confuses them. But maybe they are use to it by now.
So that idea you had about picking 600 for an attendance pick, which is about usual for a mid-week day game, forget about it. The crowd will be above 15,000 guaranteed.
Icthyomancy be loving Camp Day!
Best of Luck to You!

I think Camp Day was a Nats game last year too. Poor kids.

oh great...
Oh sure, the team is used to playing before a large crowd but playing in front of one that is cheering for them — it kinda confuses them.
You’ve just given jrhana another fanpost idea.
hmm.
according to the box score, JJ has 3 walks through 2 innings and has already thrown 54 pitches. that’s a concern.
i wonder what the over/under is on how many player’s in today’s game are hung over?
I understand that he wasn't pitching well
But come on, our bullpen isn’t that deep. Let him get at least another couple outs.
Off day tomorrow
So Fredi can use as many guys as he needs. It was a tough call, but the Hopper can go at least 3
Makes you wonder
if he didn’t feel good, something’s wrong, or what. The radio said that when he has had a bad game, it has often been a day game.
They need to run Zimmermann's pitch count up and get him out
I’m not all that comfortable with a 2- lead
Up to 92 now
this has got to be his last inning
though they might want to avoid their bullpen just as much as we do, if not more
Yes
Though, Miller has been pretty good this year. But to this point, I don’t even think there is a debate
Rainy season in south Florida
I remember it well from my summers down there.
Hopefully it won’t be long
Not as big of a deal when it's that short of a delay
Like sitting down for half an inning, or warming up, sitting down, and going again…
didn't Burnett walk 10 in his no-hitter?
obviously, walks are a sign of excellence for the Marlins. Keep up the great work!
Mike MacDougal?
I didn’t know he was still around. He is (or was) the skinniest guyI have seen throw 96+
Ballgame!
1 game back! Go Braves tonight!!!
Nice to see the Fish not let up against the Nationals.
