Jimmy Rollins, who is currently sporting a much lower batting average and on-base percentage than our own beloved Emilio Bonifacio, has just taken over the SS lead for the All-Star game. Rollins, despite trailing Hanley is just about every singe statistical category, leads him by over 50,000 votes.
This is just another example of why the fans should not vote in the All-Star starters if the game is going to impact the World Series. If the All-Star game reverted back to being just a mid-season exhibition, then by all means whoever the fans vote for, they should get. But the game does determine who gets home field advantage in October, and you mean to tell me that it's truly in the best interest of baseball to have a man with a .221 average starting over Hanley who has an OBP over .400!?
I respect Rollins for what he has accomplished over his career, but Ramirez deserves the starting nod this year, without question.
It irked me when Cabrera was denied his starting bid at third base by David Wright, and I will be equally miffed if Hanley has to take a back seat to an inferior Rollins this year (it might have something to do with J-Roll being a Phillie and all).
Is anyone else upest by this? Or am I just over-reacting?
