Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Orioles at Marlins (6/25)
Baltimore Orioles at Florida Marlins, Jun 25, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Breakout the brooms Florida, 'cause the Marlins are going for the sweep.
Sean West is looking to rebound after his last start. Against the Yankees he just didn't have good command of most of his pitches.
Hill is a lefty. He's not a soft-tosser per se but doesn't throw hard either. He throws a fast ball (88 mph), curve and a change.
Ichthyomancy is incredibly behind.

Futures Game
1) Stanton named to the US roster. Youngest player on the team, despite being in AA.
2) Zephyrs manager Edwin Rodriguez named to the World team coaching staff.

if they don't have video, why not give the radio feed rather than some guy on the phone?

"During the Yankee series, they didn't see Mariano Rivera, and in this series they could go three games and not see George Sherrill"
not exactly the same thing.

I would assume the thinking is that the game was already out of hand.
In fact, the win probability when Hanley stepped to the plate in the 8th was 99.9% It was worth 0.001 points of win probability (though, perhaps, the most important thousandth there is. His single in the third was more valuable, strictly speaking.
But really, Cody’s homer was the big swing (pun not intended), as it shot the win probability from 52.4% to 71.7%, and never dropped below 70% the rest of the game. Similarly, Uggla’s shot lifted the probability from 83.1% to 92.1% and it never dropped below 90% the rest of the game.
I have no idea if craig looks at the WP numbers when divvying up points, but in this instance, they back him up.

still
5 RBIs and i think 3 runs were his stats and he knocked himself in once so he was kinda responsible for 7 runs
and just an observation but whoever gets interviewed at the end of the game is usually one of the picks for the player

I figured as much, but...
if a team gets its butt handed to it as the Orioles did, I don’t see a difference between the 3rd run or the 11th. It’s one thing to award points to someone who knocks in the go-ahead or winning runs. But seriously, in a complete blow-out how do you choose whose runs were most important?
And at what point does a dominant performance deserve recognition regardless of how essential it was to the game? I’m just a little unclear on the standard here.
